Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Our prediction for this Premier League match:

Tottenham will look to make amends for a heart-breaking loss to Crystal Palace when they face Aston Villa at home ground. Spurs failed to impress in the local derby, but it has to be noted that key attacker Heung-Min Son misses the game with injury. The Korea ace, though, should recover in time to face the Villans, improving the home team’s chances of winning Sunday’s clash.

The Villans, on the other hand, dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the weekend. As Unai Emery’s troops struggled defensively in their last league match, we are tempted to put our money on Son and Co. this time out. In their last meeting in the Premier League Tottenham rolled over Aston Villa 4-0, adding an extra value to our earlier prediction. Emery should have a full squad to choose from for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium showdown.

How the bookies view it: Tottenham to triumph

Tottenham, who have won three of their four Premier League home games this season, are odds-on 20/23 favourites with 777pub.

Aston Villa are as big as 12/5 (Ta777) to emerge victorious, while a share of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium spoils is trading at 31/10 (Peso63).

Head to head: Tottenham tend to toil

Tottenham have fallen to defeat in three of their last four Premier League games with Aston Villa, including each of their previous two on home turf.

That being said, Spurs did storm to a 4-0 victory at Villa Park last season. The same scoreline on Sunday can be backed at a whopping 33/1 on Bet 365.

Players to watch: Dejan to do damage?

Dejan Kulusevski has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers in recent weeks, scoring in two of his last four top-flight outings. The Swedish playmaker is 33/20 on UniBet to either score or assist on Sunday.

Youri Tielemans will look to keep Kulusevski quiet during this contest, making the Aston Villa man an attractive option to commit two or more fouls at even-money (1/1 ) on PaddyPower. The Belgian midfielder has given away multiple free-kicks in six of his nine Premier League outings this season so far.

Predicted line-ups

Tottenham boss Postecoglou is hopeful that captain Son Heung-min will return from injury on Sunday, however defender Micky Van de Ven looks set for a spell on the sidelines after coming off early with a hamstring injury in the midweek win over Man City.

Villa boss Emery shuffled his pack against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night but he may revert back to the same set of players that started against Bournemouth last Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bissouma, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Aston Villa:: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans; McGinn, Rogers, Ramsey; Watkins

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa Prediction

Tottenham host Aston Villa in the first match of Sunday’s Premier League schedule in North London.

Spurs fell to 8th place in the league table after an unexpected 0-1 defeat away at Crystal Palace in the previous round.

Ange Postecoglou’s men did not look like themselves at Selhurst Park, failing to create much in the final third last Sunday.

They finished the game with just three attempts on target, none of which seriously troubled Palace’s keeper on the occasion.

It was the second loss in the last three league fixtures for Tottenham. They bounced back in mid-week, beating Manchester City 2-1 in the last-16 round of the League Cup.

Aston Villa were not successful in mid-week, falling 1-2 at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

They also dropped two points last weekend, conceding a late stoppage-time equalizer in a 1-1 stalemate to Bournemouth in Birmingham.

Tottenham have played much better football at home than on the road so far in the season. They have won five games on the spin in front of the home crowd across competitions.

Spurs scored three or more goals in three of these five affairs, including the 4-1 drubbing of West Ham in the previous home outing in the Premier League.

Aston Villa did not shine in the last two competitive matches. They also fell 0-4 at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in their previous head-to-head encounter in March this year.

We can see merit in backing the home win pick at the 1.90 odds. The value is also great with the 3.25 odds offered for Brennan Johnson to score anytime for the hosts.

The Welsh winger shares the top of his team’s scoring charts with three goals to his name this season.

We expect a high-scoring scenario on Sunday as five of the last six H2H outings between these counterparts provided three or more goals.
